Conditional Panel

The conditional panel is used extensively in the winter as a guide for precipitation type. On this chart, blue indicates that precipitation will likely fall as snow, magenta as freezing rain, yellow as pellets or grauppel, and green as rain. The orange line is the 0ÂșC isotherm at 925 MB which can be useful in locating areas of warm air just above the surface that can affect precipitation type (should be used in conjunction with the 850 MB chart). Finally, the dashed set of lines are 1000-850 MB thickness lines in decameters. With thicnkess over 131 decameters (red lines) rain is favored, from 1290-1310 (purple lines) all precipitation types are possible, with thicknesses of less than 1290 (blue lines), precipitation is most likely to fall as snow.
